Big Tree Medical was founded in 2017 to bring innovative models of care, under-employed care providers, and under-cared for populations together. Our mission is to create a foundation for a new, patient-centered healthcare system. Despite its many notable successes, the modern healthcare system is failing Americans. It is, at its core, a system that puts patients last. Patients are forced to endure a fractured care experience that traps them in never-ending cycles of wasted time and crushing debt. 


Over the last decade, visionary leaders have found that a simple change in payment structure can realign the incentives in healthcare and put patients and their well-being back at the heart of the system. By moving from pay-per-service to a membership structure, the healthcare system can return to a patient-first approach.

Membership-Style Healthcare Is Affordable & Can Work for You

Unlike traditional healthcare, membership models do not include the entire healthcare system. Through a primary care membership structure, the patient becomes the key decision-maker in their health. Because primary care is so inexpensive, our members can afford an elegant, concierge-level experience that costs a fraction of traditional healthcare plans. The primary care team can then help direct the patient to the best and most efficient care providers for their more catastrophic needs.

Why Is Modern Healthcare Failing?

  • Under-Employed Care Providers

    Due to a lack of primary care physicians, a solution to the healthcare problem is not possible without the assistance of under-employed care professionals. In the last decade, the number of physician assistants (PA) and nurse practitioners (NP) has grown drastically. There is a large number of compassionate, highly trained professionals who, if operating in a properly structured system, can provide excellent, accessible care. Registered nurses (RNs) are also underutilized. Their clinical skills and ability to help patients navigate the healthcare system are great assets to any care team.

  • Under-Cared for Populations

    Big Tree Medical was founded in Missouri, where 110 of the 114 counties are experiencing a shortage of primary care. In fact, only the most affluent areas have access to adequate primary care. Billions of dollars have been invested in primary care startups in the affluent neighborhoods of cities like Boston and San Francisco where wealthy Americans can simply text their care team or get a same-day appointment with the doctor they have known for years. Meanwhile, the average American is experiencing a 3-week wait for a doctor’s appointment. The traditional healthcare system has incentivized doctors to avoid primary care as their practice area and the result is killing Americans. 

  • Technology

    Technology could play a dramatic role in primary care accessibility. Like telemedicine companies, Big Tree Medical has adapted to the use of text messaging and video appointments as a form of primary care. However, Big Tree isn’t directing patients to doctors and nurses they’ve never met and will never interact with again. We provide our patients with a dedicated care team they know and trust. These care teams can help members with primary care concerns like acute and chronic conditions, mental health needs, and preventative care needs. But unlike traditional primary care, patients actually get an amazing experience with plenty of time for visits and little or no wait.

Big Tree Is Providing Direct Primary Care & Telehealth for Americans

After initial success in Columbia, Missouri, Big Tree helped open clinics in the surrounding rural areas. Big Tree also set up infrastructure for clinical teams anywhere in the US to start their own virtual-only primary care clinics. Though virtual care cannot take care of everything, it can take care of most things. In an era of instant downloads and two-day shipping, Americans are more comfortable receiving virtual care than they ever were waiting in the doctor’s office or urgent care.
